A writing course unlike any other.
This isn’t a “writing workshop.” It’s a systems building master class!
Most writing courses are just pre-packaged “hacks” and “tricks” taught by people who either don’t write regularly, or have only ever created “content.” This course assumes you’re going to work hard to write. It’s going to give you a system, something you can lean on.
No random comments by classmates “workshopping” your writing.
Your readers tell you what’s working. Your classmates don’t.
Writing workshops lure people in with “free feedback” and “commentary.” This course is not about that, because classmates aren’t your readers. Readers are your readers, and you find them by getting your stuff out into the world. That’s where you’ll find out if what you say has any resonance. This course is about best practices, sustainable routines, good habits. The stuff that gets you writing and keeps you writing, so you can find out what real people think about what you really have to say.
Always have something to write about.
I never have “writer’s block.”
If anything, I have writer’s overload. Working with the system taught in this course has given me more topics, more rough drafts, and more manuscripts than I could ever finish. All I have to do now is figure out which ones to work on. We can talk about how to make the coices, too, if you like!
A course with kindness.
There’s no room for shame in personal knowledge management.
This course is based in principles not proselytizing. Discernment not dogma. Whether you use a digital platform or paper to work your zettelkasten, you’re welcome in this course. Whether you write academic works, fiction, nonfiction, poetry, or performances, there is a place for you here. That’s not to say you won’t be pushed. You will. But, there will always be love and care for your progress behind it all.
- “I've spent a few years in a couple of the same online communities as Bob Doto and followed his short-form writing for the past two. Through observing his interactions and responses to others I've come to respect him as a thoughtful, humble, and well-spoken teacher. He brings knowledge, experience, and a playful humor...to the conversations.” — Witt
